ASSIGNMENT 6/13/11

1.  What does the author mean when he says, "money can buy you time, which is why we pay physicians and pharmaceutical companies after we have heart attacks"?
HE SAID WE CAN BUY MONEY WITH TIME THAN TIME WITH MONEY.
2.  Reread the paragraph that starts "But 25% more pay is not the heart of the matter."  The author then says, "People who start businesses are more likely to get rich than anyone else."  According to the author, why is this true?
BASICALLY BECAUSE A PERSON WHO IS WORKING VERY HARD TO GET THERE COMPANY OR SOMETHING RUNNING ARE MORE LIKELY TO SUCCEED THAN A PERSON WHO JUST SITS HOME DOING ANYTHING.
3.  Explain in your owns words what the heading "The High Cost of Leisure" means given what has been covered so far in the article.
I THINK THAT "the high cost of leisure" MEANS THAT EVERYTHING HAS GONE UP SO MUCH THAT ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY ALSO SINCE IT HAS GONE UP NOW WE BASICALLY HAVE TO PAY DOUBLE TO BUY THINGS.
4.  In what year in human history did productivity begin its "steady upProxy-Connection: keep-alive

rd rise . . . of 2.5% per annum"?
SO THE UPWARD HAS RISE AND MULTIPLY FROM 500 TO OVER 1000 IN THE PAST 30 YEARS.
5.  What was Thomas Edison's contribution to "overcoming nature"?  How did his invention overcome nature?

6.  According to the author, how do most of us overcome nature? WELL BASICALLY WE STOP FIGHTING FOR STUFF AND WE STOP HURTING NATURE BY BURNING TREES ETC.
7.  According to the author, why do most people don't like to work? MOST PEOPLE DONT LIKE TO WORK BECAUSE THEY ARE LAZY AND DONT LIKE MONEY AND ALSO THEY DONT LIKE TO LISTEN TO OTHER PEOPLE.
8.  According to Dr. North, how many hours does it take for a person to become competent with something?  Divide that number by 365 and you will get the number of years it takes to be competent.  How many years does it take for someone to be competent at computer engineering or selling real estate?  How many years does it take for someone to be a master of a skill? IT TAKES A LONG TIME FOR A PERSON TO BECOME AN ENGINEER BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO GO TO A LONG PERIOD OF TIME SCHOOL ALSO YOU GOT TO WORK HARD TO BECOME THAT BECAUSE ITS REALLY HARD.
9.  Gary North's article promotes and privileges creators over consumers.  He says, "What most people do not recognize early enough is that they should find employment in a field in which the compounding process produces a sense of personal achievement that lures them back into an ever-greater investment of their time. The compounding process is what produces success, but the front-end costs, especially psychological costs, keep out most people. They willingly serve as salary earners rather than creators."  What does he mean by the "compounding process"? I GUESS WHAT HE IS TRYING TO SAY IS THAT TO BE SUCCESSFUL YOU HAVE TO GO TO ALOT IN YOUR LIFE BECAUSE IF YOU DONT YOU WILL NEVER BE WHAT YOU WANT IN YOUR LIFE.
10.  In his section on "The Problem With Schools," Gary North says that great teachers are not allowed to multiply themselves.  What does he mean by multiplying one's self? HE SAYS THAT BECAUSE IF TEACHERS ARE BEING MULTIPLY LETS SAY BY HOW GREAT OF TEACHING THEY DO THEY ARE GOING TO GET PAID THE SAME SO OTHER TEACHERS TRY TO BE MORE GREATER THAN OTHERS JUST TO GET MORE MONEY.
11.  According to Dr. North, who in the free-market is king and the person to whom we should serve? I GUESS TO NOBODY.
12.  What lesson can you learn from the following story.  "There is a man in my church who owns and operates motels. Back in the 1980s, he was in college, earning a degree in physical education. He was also making $60,000 a year in the motel business. His coach told him to quit school. "You're making more money than I am. Why do you want to teach junior high school boys, whose parents will be on your back to give their kid more playing time?" He wisely dropped out of college."I DONT GET THIS QUESTION SORRY.

Americans would likely be horrified to see entrepreneurs pulling carts of other people's trash through the streets and living at junkyards. They needn't worry. Minimum-wage laws, business licensing, OSHA requirements and all the rest will keep some Americans rooting through their own trash to comply with government edicts.

Emir Altıngöller deals in recyclables by the kilogram, buying for 40 kuruş and selling for 60 kuruş. On the worst of days he makes 10 lira, while on the best of days it's ten times that. sports

well my dream sport has always been about me playing professional soccer. thats been my dream since i was a little kid. why ? because soccer can take you to difference places of the world and you can meet different people and visit different countries. people tell me that its hard for me to get there but i tell them anything is possible in this world if you try your best and believe.!

the sports that i like are soccer , football , baseball and basketball. my most priority is soccer and football. theres many reasons why i like these two sports. soccer it started by my dad playing division 1 in mexico and he inspired me and he always told me that he would be happy if i could do the same when i get older and even get farther than he did.

football is one of the sports that i play now in highschool. football can be dangerous but yet i still like it and i been playing it for two years already. football is very emotional because when u know u worked hard and when your team is down and you have gave it your all but still couldnt find the win it hurts and its very physical. there is many bad sides for playing football. one is that you can get hurt and then not play anymore and that would suck.

sports is something that can take you somewhere in life. it can stop you from being in the streets doing anything or being in a bad path like other students are doing now a days. once you get to college you can get recruited by a professional team and i think that would be awesome to experience yourself being on tv and people watching all over the world and be known by a bunch of people.
so walter is talking about how people are in bankruptcy and how people get devastated people everything now is alot harder to get than back then.  So Last week, two labor economists, Professors and David Macpherson released a study for the Washington, D.C based Employment Policies Institute titled. Racial Disparities in the Employment Consequences of Minimum Wage Increases.

Even and Macpherson say that it would be easy to say this tragedy is an unfortunate byproduct of the recession, but if you said so, you'd be wrong. Their study demonstrates that increases in the minimum wage at both the state and federal level are partially to blame for the crisis in employment for minority young adults.

Even and Macpherson say that they're more likely to be employed in low-skilled jobs in eating and drinking establishments. These are businesses with  more adversely affected by increases in minimum wage increases. For men without a high school diploma, 25 percent of whites and 31 percent of blacks work at an eating and drinking establishment. CoProxy-Connection: keep-alive

ounding the discriminatory burden of minimum wages, not discussed by the authors, are the significant educational achievement differences between blacks and whites.

Minimum wage laws have massive political support, including that of black politicians. That means that many young black males will remain a part of America's permanent underclass with crime, drugs and prison as their future.

the death of bin laden is something that no one would forget because its someone that the U.S was looking for and they found them. The assassination of Osama bin Laden by US Special Forces in Abbotabad, Pakistan will likely assure Barack Obama’s victory in the 2012 presidential race. Republican hawks will have a hard time pressing their claims that Obama is "soft on terrorism."

people from the US are now thinking that because they killed the person that they been wanting is going to be like a truce with iraq i dont it because they are going to try to invade us and do something bad to us to get back revenge for killing osama..Osama bin Laden may well and truly be dead. He predicted long ago he would die a martyr in a gunfight with US forces. Bin Laden has been more or less retired for the past 8-10 years, spending his time and energies in staying alive with a $25 million price on his head. He had almost become irrelevant.

Al-Qaida’s number two, the Egyptian Ayman al-Zawahiri, remains at large and is now titular head of what remains of the organization of which he has been operations chief for many years. Dr. Zawahiri, who was brutally tortured in Egypt, is a dangerous extremist with much blood on his hands and a lust for revenge.

North America’s media and the Bush administration wildly exaggerated the menace, strength and reach of al-Qaida, panicking Americans into believing, as the analyst Kevin Phillips wrote, that suburban soccer moms in the deepest Midwest were petrified Osama bin Laden was coming for their kids.
